San Diego Coaster

Flash the San Diego Coaster LED map sign in about a minute. No toolchain, no source clone. The sign shows live trains straight from the transit feed and needs only Wi-Fi and power.

What happens

  1. Plug the board into a USB port on this computer. Use a data cable — a charge-only cable powers the board but carries no data.
  2. Press Connect & install and pick the board from the list. It usually appears as cu.usbserial-… or CH340.
  3. Choose Install San Diego Coaster, confirm the erase prompt, and wait about a minute.
  4. When the board reboots, join the open Wi-Fi network SETUP SD COASTER from your phone and enter your home Wi-Fi. That's it — trains appear within a minute.

What the lights mean

The switch on the back

It picks how trains are drawn: one way is the animated two-LED style with a leading light, the other a single solid light per train. Flip it any time.

The button on the back

A quick tap steps through brightness. Press and hold and the strip fills up as a warning — keep holding and the sign forgets its Wi-Fi and reopens SETUP SD COASTER for setup.

After the first install

It updates itself over Wi-Fi. Every six hours it checks for a newer build and installs it, rolling back on its own if one fails to start. You only need this page for a brand-new board or a recovery flash.
